Mike, your panel with Deon Meyer and Tony Park was the most hysterical fun I've yet had at FLF. I know you all and yet I learnt things about you, amidst gales of laughter, that I'd not known before. Take a huge bow Mike!
The panel with Deon Meyer and Tony Park was exceptional, Mike! Expertly done.
I was tempted to share this story in the Q&A:
Over a decade ago, Deon put up a tweet to the effect of "I'm at Hudson's on Kloof Street, researching the next Bennie Griessel book. What do you think he'd like on this menu?" I replied cheekily, "A Black Label Draught." and he said "No man, Nic, he's five years sober!" A friend of mine, Schalk Jonker, joined the fray suggesting that Deon uses my name in the next book as a villain.
At least I now know that I might need to contribute to the Cape Leopard Trust to receive the honour.
I can see the inspiration for trying to get out a book annually, if only to have a shot at being part of FLF every year! Fascinating talks, great wine, beautiful scenery, new friends and old. Just brilliant. The best weekend of the year.
Agreed!
It remains one of the best literary festivals in the country - and guys like you make it even more so.

Gracias, Sue.
I wasn't able to make FLF, but I will be at KBF this weekend. I'm doing mostly kidlit things, but will try to find you for a quick hello!
I've got lots of spare time, Tania. Will stalk you. You must meet Caity too.

Great anecdote, Nic, thank you. Ja, it's gonna cost you some bucks (although given that the trust is for leopards, probably bucks is the wrong word).

It surely was.
